GOT STRESS?
Contributions to stress in the workplace can
come from a variety of sources and are
oftentimes out of the employers control
because they exist beyond the walls of the organization. For an organization to utilize the potential of its people it must find ways to help them relieve not only workplace stress but off-the-job stress.
Stress unrelieved, according to the American Psychological Association can be responsible for;
• 75 to 90 percent of all physician office visits for stress-related ailments and complaints.
• Stress is linked to the six leading causes of death--heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide.
• The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has declared stress a hazard
of the workplace.
• One in four people say they have taken
a “mental health day” as a result of
work stress.
